European University Alliance EUonAIR
ESSCA is member of an European consortium EUonAIR, a major European alliance advancing responsible AI integration in higher education, research collaboration, mobility, and territorial innovation.
EUonAIR unites leading European universities to develop a forward‑looking approach to AI education. ESSCA plays a strategic role, strengthening academic cooperation, educational innovation, and engagement with smart urban ecosystems.
EUonAIR: A strategic European alliance
EUonAIR (European University on AI in Curricula, Smart UniverCity and (Return) Mobility) is a large-scale European alliance recognised by the European Commission for its capacity to transform higher education through responsible and collaborative integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
It brings together 10 principal partner institutions and more than 20 associated partners from 12 European countries. The consortium represents over 85,000 students, more than 13,400 university professionals, and reaches over 13 million citizens. Partners include higher education institutions, municipalities, chambers of commerce, and associations active in artificial intelligence, information technology, education, and research.
Coordinated by Kozminski University, the project follows a long-term roadmap reaching towards 2040, aiming to develop an integrated and sustainable model for a European University.
A Long-Term European Project
Launched in January 2025, EUonAIR is a four‑year project supported by the European Commission. It was selected as a top-rated proposal for its potential to support Europe’s green and digital transitions and to address emerging skills needs.
The alliance intends to evolve, by 2040, into a fully integrated European university with shared structures and a common strategy centred on education, research, and innovation.
Core Objectives of EUonAIR
- MyAI – A European virtual campus dedicated to AI
MyAI will provide innovative educational resources, research tools, and collaborative environments for students and academic staff across Europe. - Ethical and responsible integration of AI into curricula
The alliance promotes comprehensive integration of AI into degree programmes, institutional practices, and governance models, with strong attention to ethics and responsible use. - Smart & Green UniverCities
The project strengthens cooperation with European cities to develop innovative, data-driven and sustainable solutions for mobility, governance, energy and urban planning. - Reinventing academic mobility
EUonAIR introduces mobility models designed to maximise learning impact, including the Return Mobility concept, ensuring knowledge gained abroad contributes to home institutions.
ESSCA’s Role in the EUonAIR Alliance
ESSCA School of Management is one of the key institutions contributing to the project’s research, educational, and societal missions.
- Contribution to AI education and the MyAI campus
ESSCA provides expertise in management, digital transformation, and responsible innovation to develop AI-related learning content for the MyAI campus. - Participation in Smart & Green UniverCities initiatives
As co-leader of Work Package 7 – Smart & Green UniverCities, ESSCA plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable and innovative urban strategies through its AI for Sustainability Institute. This commitment reflects ESSCA’s strong territorial engagement across its campuses, notably in Angers, Paris and Lyon, to connect higher education with smart urban development. - Organisation of the EUonAIR Urban Innovation Hackathon
ESSCA organises the annual EUonAIR Urban Innovation Hackathon, a collaborative event that brings together students from several partner universities to design AI-based solutions addressing real urban challenges. The first edition took place in March–April 2025.
